Fulani Fashion

Welcome back from a long 4th of July weekend! Beyond Bohemian

As we continue to feature items soon to be released in the Q.A.C webstore for purchase June 1st, in this week's Cultural Beauty series, I wanted to feature the Rabari Tribe of India. Not only are these strong women leaders in their communities, but for the better part of thousands of years, they have been at the forefront of what is now being called "Boho / Bohemian" fashion. Now lets pause here, because if we're being really honest here? The traditional accessories these women wear goes so far beyond the generic term "boho."

Deep in the Heart of Kenya

Last week week I discussed the beauty of the Gambian people, specifically the Mandingo tribe, and their close relationship with the arts and craftsmanship. Of the many pieces the Gambia people brings to life, one of their most beautiful creations is their 100% amber necklaces.

This week, our eyes turn to the country of Kenya and it's world renowned Maasai Tribe. One of the key fashion staples found in Maasai cultural designs is the presence of intricate beadwork.

Mastering Artistic Poses in 5 Steps

Camera Whore ... Vanity Vixen ... Selfie Queen. I could honestly be called any one of these names. Truth be told, I absolutely love photography and art of capturing a moment in time that could quite possibly last forever. How completely ironic, that just a few years ago, I would have preferred to be behind the lens rather than in front of it. If you recall, one of my first posts discussed myjourney to self love. In short, it literally took me years to embrace the young girl, now woman, I see in the mirror. Today? I'm completely love with myself and celebrate every inch of me, even my flaws. Thankfully all that time quietly observing life behind the camera has taught me a thing or two about what elicits a great photo.

Shop the Look! - Queen Adwoa's Favorites!

Developing ones unique style can be somewhat difficult. While much of my own style showcased throughout this space is created by wearing my own fashion designs, paired with global / cultural pieces from the Q.A.C flagship store, I also wear fabulous items I've shopped (and hoarded LOL) over the years. However, now? My own personal, back of the closet pieces can be yours too!

Vintage & Culture - Shopping Vintage (Part 2)

That said, why vintage? Why wear or discuss dated 20 ... 30 ... 60 year old articles of clothing if the purpose of this space was to highlight / celebrate global culture and it's impact on fashion? Simply put, when closely examined, we see that vintage pieces are culture. Rather, these garments offer yet another historical context to a group’s “way of life.” Vintage clothing is reflective of the human experience and can even showcase a time and place that may or may not exist any longer. It encapsulates a feeling of an era while speaking to the mood or circumstances of people from that time period. From sparse and modest clothes of the Puritan Era to glittery, extravagant, "in your face" clothing of the 1980s ... People have always had a close connection between the garments they chose the relationship to their environment or moment in history.

Summer Collection 2015

As you already know from the "about me" section have some might call an "interesting" (code word for obsessive) relationship with clothing. Like a scene from A&E's show "Hoarders," I have bags upon bags of clothes from my decades of obsessing. Believe it or not, I still have and fit clothes from middle school that I cant let go of. Yes, yall, middle school lol! I'm slowly working on purging some of these things that clearly need to go, but yet still hold so much sentimental value ... like that cute tank top I wore to a "DMX & The Ruff Ryders" concert during my freshman year of high school. Listen, don't you dare judge me! I called that "my lucky shirt" lol  Besides, not all of my old obsessions are cringe worthy. Quite a few actually have either cycled back into or still look amazeballs! Take these tops for example.
